The Razor-qt team announced the release of version 0.5.0 which includes several improvements and new features. Razor-qt is a lightweight desktop environment based, as its name says on Qt. Its goal is to be simple and fast. Although Razor-qt is a young project it contains the key features of a DE such as Panel, Desktop, Application launcher, Settings center and Sessions. For the time being it lacks a Window manager. However you can use Openbox or KWin for example.
The most noticeable changes are the following:
- New Appearance GUI for configuring themes
- Several new plugins for added functionality
- Many bug fixes resulting in better performance
- New Notification daemon
And here are a few screenshots of Razor-qt.
To install Razor-qt in Ubuntu 12.10, 12.04, 11.10, 11.04 or 10.04 you can use its official PPA. Just open a terminal and type:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:razor-qt
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install razorqt
For other distributions such as Arch Linux, Fedora, OpenSUSE etc you may read the Razor-qt installation page.
Have you tried Razor-qt? Which is your favorite DE?
