It's been a year now that I've replaced my old Sony Ericsson with a brand new HTC Desire! I have to admit that I am amazed by this excellent Android mobile phone. 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 576MB RAM, 5 Megapixel camera with 720P video recording and Android 2.2 Froyo along with HTC Sense UI. For those who hear the word Android for the first time I will say that Android is Google's operating system for mobile devices such as mobile phones and tablets. And of course it is based on Linux!
Android has a large community of developers writing applications that extend the functionality of those devices. Those applications can be easily downloaded and installed to your mobile device through Android market. Below I have gathered the apps that I am using so far and I think that are helpful for new users who are searching through the 200.000 applications of Android market.
Multimedia
- Album Art Grabber Extremely easy to use, with one click, it can automatically find and fix the missing album cover art of your mp3 files so that it is displayed in your player. All of the arts are saved to SD card.

- Shazam You listen to a song and you don't know which song is it? Run Shazam, let it record a few seconds of the song and it will tell you the singer, it's title and many other information!

- Droid Comic Viewer Droid Comic Viewer is a lightweight image, comic & manga viewer. It opens CBZ/ZIP, ACV, CBR/RAR (beta), JPEG, PNG, BMP files.

- IMDb Movies & TV The application of the well know Internet Movie's Database site.

System Tools
- EStrongs File Explorer EStrongs File Explorer is a featured File/Application Manager which can explore the phones & PCs in LAN & Remote & Bluetooth.

- Quick Settings Nice all-in-one settings app. Quick access to Brightness, Volume, Ringer, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, Screen timeout & Rotation, Airplane mode, Data Sync, Lock pattern & APN. Battery meter, flashlight, memory indicator and more.

- SDrescan A small tool that invokes the android media scanner to rescanning the SD card for new media files. No more need to reboot your phone so that you can hear the new mp3 you've just copied to your SD card.

Internet Tools
- 3G Watchdog Monitors your Mobile Internet (3G/Edge/GPRS) data usage, shows a status icon (green/orange/red) in the notif bar and a detailed report page. Widget available. Useful if your "unlimited data" plan actually has some restrictions

- eBuddy Messenger Chat on multiple MSN (Windows Live), Facebook, Yahoo, AIM, ICQ, GTalk, Hyves & MySpace accounts

- gReader gReader is an unofficial Google Reader client for Android. Read all your rss/feed news in one place with Google Reader.

- Quickpedia An application for browsing Wikipedia through your Android phone. Just try it!
- Google Goggles Google Goggles is a visual search app. Instead of using words, take a picture of an object with your camera phone: the application will attempt to recognize the object, and return relevant search results. Goggles can also recognize English, French, Italian, German and Spanish words and allow you to translate to other languages. It can even solve a Sudoku puzzle!

- Google Translate Use Google Translate to instantly translate text between over 50 languages.

Social Apps
- Facebook The facebook application for updating your status and viewing all your facebook activity.

- Twitter The official Twitter application.

- Google+ The official application for Google's social network

Travelling
- AccuWeather The AccuWeather.com Application is a global GPS-based weather center. Complete with worldwide forecasts and radar, the AccuWeather.com Android application helps weatherproof your day by staying up to date on weather conditions wherever you travel.

- Google Maps Use Google maps in your phone and never carry a map again! Get Google maps with navigation, places and latitude.

- GPS Test GPS Test shows basic GPS signal (SNR) and satellite information as well as your current location and time read from the GPS engine.

- Compass A compass with geotaging abilities.

Sports
- Eurosport.com Eurosport's application to check out results and live scores for football, basketball, tennis, formula 1 etc.

- ScoreMobile FC Get live scores, stats, news, league tables for over 30 leagues and competitions.

Shopping
- Barcode Scanner Scan barcodes on CDs, books, and other products, then look up prices and reviews, or search for a word in a book and find where it occurs. You can also scan QR Codes containing URLs, contact info, calendar events, etc.

Miscellaneous
- GTasks Gtasks is a simple and efficient todo list/task list/check list/notes/ tools. It have both local mode and google account mode. Moreover you can sync with your google tasks perfectly!

- RealCalc Scientific Calculator What its name says.
