Ubuntu logoAlong with Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal a new Shopping Lens was introduced. However many users didn't like this feature (I've shown you how to disable Amazon Shopping Lens). Mark Tully, has developed Shopping Lens Alternate which is a separate tool to the default Ubuntu version. It doesn’ t rely on or require the original to be installed and it can be used on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10.

To install it open a terminal and type:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:markjtully/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install unity-lens-shopping-alternate

Once installed log out and back in. Click on the shopping bag icon and search from something. Results from amazon will appear separated in categories like music, books, products etc.

Amazon Shopping Lens

Right clicking on an item opens Preview with additional information.

Amazon Shopping Lens

It worths noticing that sales through this lens still support Ubuntu.

To remove it simply open Ubuntu Software Center, search for Shopping Lens Alternate and press Remove or open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-get remove unity-lens-shopping
