Linux Books

Of course the Internet along with the help of Google is a great source of information. You can answer almost any question you have about Linux and find many tutorials, guides and help. However many people prefer reading this information on a printed book accesssible even when they are not online or don't have a computer in front of them. I've received many e-mails asking me to propose them a few good books regarding Linux commands, administration and for specific distributions such as Ubuntu, Fedora etc. So, I've search for a few good books. Here they are. Happy reading!

Ubuntu is a free Operating System based on Debian GNU/Linux. It has been rated as the most popular Linux distribution amongst Linux users according to Distrowatch. As it happens every six months a new version of Ubuntu has been released. Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx is here! Below you can find some helpful tutorials for old and new users!

Firefox’s biggest advantage has always been its huge diversity. Users can pick among thousand of extensions, themes and plug-ins that make surfing the Web waaaaaaaay easier. But what happens if, for some reason, you have to remove Firefox and then re-install it? Writing down every single extension you have installed was at first the only “solution”. Enter MozBackup.

This very useful app can backup your Firefox extensions/themes/history-literally everything- and restore it whenever your want very easily.

Download MozBackup, install it and fire it up.

Hit “Next” and then choose “Backup a profile”. From the list below, choose the profile you want and press Next.

Again, choose the profile you want and then hit “Browse” and select where you want your backup to be placed.

The program will ask you if you want to password-protect your backup. If you thing this is necessary, feel free to do it, else hit “No”.

Tick every category you want to save. If you choose “extensions” (and you probably will), the program will tell you that some extensions have problematic restoration. Having tested it with a LOT of extensions, I can assure you that with most of them you will have no problem. Hit “Next” and you are done.

To restore your Firefox profile, follow the same procedure choosing “Restore” instead of “Backup”. You can also backup your Thunderbird settings the same way!

I hope you find it useful! If you want to comment or ask something about this guide, feel free to mail me at mtsarduckas@gmail.com !
