How to create a custom DVD using ConvertXtoDVD v.4 |

ConvertXtoDVD 4 is out! I believe you all know ConvertXtoDVD. Just in
case, ConvertXtoDVD is a top video conversion software that makes it
easy for you to convert any video file and author your own DVD, create
personalized menus with many templates, add subtitles, add effects to
your videos and burn them directly to DVDs. ConvertXtoDVD version 4 has
many improvements, although its interface has remained the same.
Conversion quality has become better thanks to the new 2 pass encoding
feature. Moreover new resizing filters were developed by VSO so that
you can upscale/downscale your videos with the best result. Furthermore
since conversion speed is as important as conversion quality
ConvertXtoDVD has now multicore support. Of course the new Windows 7
are supported.Video formats supported: avi, divx, xvid, mov, mkv, flv , mpeg1, mpeg2, mpeg-, nsv, dvr-ms, ts, ifo, vob, asf, wmv, realmedia, rm, rmvb, ogm, existing files from digital camcorders, TV/Sat, capture cards, etc. No external codecs needed like avi codec download. You can free download ConvertXtoDVD or buy ConvertXtoDVD. Just install it and run it so that we can move on with the rest of the guide! Add your video filesFirst add the video files you want to convert to DVD so that you can watch them on any standalone DVD player. Simply click on the green cross to add your videos.
ConvertXtoDVD will automatically create a DVD menu and each video file will become a separate titleset. Since a DVD disk has certain space the more files you add the worst the quality of the final DVD will be since ConvertXtoDVD will encode them to fit in a single disk. Therefore you can have a look at the "Conversion advisor" to see what the quality will be. For about 2h of video quality will be excellent. For less than 4h you will have pretty good quality and you can watch the movie without any problems. If you are converting TV series episodes of 40 minutes each, 4 episodes are enough for a 4.7GB DVD.
If you expand the "DVD Options" you can customize the DVD Template, play videos one after another, rename your DVD and choose the text style you like. A few more options were added here from the previous.
ConvertXtoDVD comes with some very good templates which you can see by double clicking on the Template option. Unfortunately the templates are the same with the previous version.
In the next screenshot you can see the font adjustments available which appear if you double click on the "All Menu Pages text style editor". You can also access the same settings from Settings -> Subtitiles -> Subtitle text rendering settings.
Titleset Options
In the titleset menu you can also add thumbnails of each titleset for easier and faster access to them. By default the thumbnail will be taken from the first frame of each video. However you can change this by double clicking on the thumbnail option (1).
You can also add subtitles to each titleset. If you had the subtitles in the same folder with each video file and they also have the same name they will be automatically inserted, you should see something like (1 stream) (1). If you don't right click on the "Subtitle (0 stream)" and browse to where you keep them.
The video preview window which is available by clicking on the preview button (1) allows you to see how your final DVD menu will look like.
At this point you can also choose to create an animated DVD menu with background music! You can choose a custom video/image or a clip taken from the converted video. In the same way you can add your own mp3 audio file playing in the background. You can select background audio and video for Root menu, Chapter menu and Audio/Subtitle settings.
Regarding the video settings of the output DVD you can change its resolution, fps, aspect ratio (16:9 for wide screens and 4:3 for full screen), and the video resize method.
General SettingsLet's take a lookt at the settings. You can access more settings by clicking on Settings -> General. Here in the "General" tab you can change the location where all DVD files will be placed (1). Be sure that you have many GBs of free space.
In the "Chapters" tab you can create Chapters in each Titleset for easier browsing them. Default value is 5 minutes for titlesets longer than 15 minutes.
Next in "DVD specification" you can select between PAL (for Europe) and NTSC (for US and Asia), as well as adjust the video resolution just in case you want to do this. Default values are ok however.
In the "Encoding" tab you can adjust Encoding Quality/Speed. Better quality means worst encoding speed. You choose. You can also select the size of the DVD disk you are going to use, such as DVD-5 or DVD-9. Here you are advised to select Two pass encoding since the final DVD quality will be much better although it will take longer to complete.
In the "Video processing" tab make sure you set the maximum numbers of cores your processor has e.g. 2 for Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 for Intel Quad Core. This will enhance the conversion speed.
Convert your DVD!When you are ready just click on the Convert button and wait whiel ConvertXtoDVD encodes your new DVD!
When the conversion is over you will be prompted to insert a blank DVD disk in your DVD burner and the burn process will start.
In the links below you can find three bonus menu templates for using with ConvertXtoDVD!
In the links below you can download animated videos which can be used as background videos in your DVDs. After looking at the previews click on the name
of the video, then select either Pal or NTSC, then right click on the
link and select Save target as and the download will begin. You can play the file with Windows Media Player or VLC for example.
**Note: The downloads are in DVD format and therefore in better quality than the preview provided here:
Congratulations you have just authored your own DVD. Now you can watch it on any standalone DVD player. If you liked ConvertXtoDVD you can free download ConvertXtoDVD or buy ConvertXtoDVD! Did you enjoy this article? Please share it!

| Thank you very much for this great guide! I thought I pretty much had it down but you showed my new things I should have been using! Is the audio out of sync on this newer version when converting mkv files? It is pretty much a known issue with the earlier version(s), that you have to offset the audio by 200ms when converting mkv. Just curious as I am still using v3.8.0.193. Thanks! | |

Hey axel, How's it going? The video and audio codecs associated with the mkv files I have tried to convert are ... video x264 - audio DTS and video x264 and audio ac3. I have converted many mkv files with ConvertXtoDVD and have had to offset the audio by 200ms on all of them. Not much of a hassle at all. After much reasearch and a ton of googling I found that most people converting mkv files with ConvertXtoDVD had to offset the audio by 200ms to get it synced up. I have tried many other programs out there and they ALL end up with the audio out of sync as well. I am definitely going to try version 4 and will post back the results. Thanks again for all your hard work! |

Thank's for your really good softtware. Dvds are alive and many people still use them... Using your programme my questions are: 1) I always ask for a final DVD size of 4300gb, (input = "mkv" files) but i never have it !!! 2) And I don't see any option to put the video-bitrate i want ,manually. Is this possible? Will this be possible in the future? Thank you. |

I do some tx shows and usually its MKV. On CON 3 i would do 4 45 minute episodes and it would fill the disc space.I got CON4 and even though I do 2 passes it only fills half the disc space.I've tried several options but its always the same...ie half the disc space and half the quality.
