Linux Books

Of course the Internet along with the help of Google is a great source of information. You can answer almost any question you have about Linux and find many tutorials, guides and help. However many people prefer reading this information on a printed book accesssible even when they are not online or don't have a computer in front of them. I've received many e-mails asking me to propose them a few good books regarding Linux commands, administration and for specific distributions such as Ubuntu, Fedora etc. So, I've search for a few good books. Here they are. Happy reading!

Setting up our Virtual Machine I

Now we are ready to set up our virtual machine. Run VirtualBox. It can be found under Start -> All programs -> Sun xVM VirtualBox -> VirtualBox. You can simply close the Registration form by clicking on the X Close button. This is the main Window of VirtualBox.

Click the New button and a New Machine Wizard window will pop up.

Click Next and in the following window select a Name for your guest OS (1). I have chosen Ubuntu. Also select Ubuntu as OS Type (2) from the drop list.

Click Next and select the amount of Memory that our Virtual System will use. Generally you should select 1/4 of your RAM. I have 2GB of RAM, so I gave 512MB to the Virtual Machine.

Now it's time to allocate disk space for our guest OS. Click New (1).

The Create New Virtual Disk Wizard will start. Just click Next here.

Select Dynamically expanding image. This means that the virtual disk will grow dynamically up to the size specified later.

Select a Name for the Image File (1), Ubuntu again would be fine. Specify also the Image Size (2). 10GB is ok for testing purposes. You can also select the location in which the virtual disk image will be stored if you click the yellow folder icon (3).

Click Finish and the settings we have made will be applied.
