I believe you all know Firefox, Mozilla's cutting edge web browser. Those of you who don't should really give it a try! Below I have gathered some tweaks, customizations, modifications and tips that I use and that can make your Firefox look better, feel better and act better according to your needs. Of course any time I find something new and useful I will update this page. Feel free to propose any tip, trick or add-on you think is worth mentioning!
Awesome Bar
Firefox's 3 address bar, also known as Awesome Bar, suggests web sites addresses as you type. Below there are some changes to make awesome bar even better and adjust it to your needs.
Edit Middle 2 is an extension that shows AwesomeBar's results when editing in the middle (not just at the end). This makes it easier to correct typos or change search terms and immediately see new results.

Hide pages (bookmarks) that you haven't visited from showing in the AwesomeBar. This is for users that don't want to see any bookmarks showing up unless they've used the bookmark since deleting certain pages/sites or clearing the history.
Note: this add-on will set the following two preferences to 0, so if you uninstall this add-on, you may want to reset these values: places.frecency.unvisited{Bookmark,Typed}Bonus Get it here .

By default Firefox's 3 Location Bar displays 12 results. You can change this number by typing about:config in the location bar and then browser.urlbar.maxRichResults in the Filter. Double click on it and set your desired number of results.
about:config tweaks
To use the following tweaks first type about:config in the url bar. Firefox 3 will display a message that this might void your warranty. Just click the 'I'll be careful, I promise' button and be careful. ;)

When you install a new extension the Install button is disabled by a small delay in order to protect you from installing malicious software. To have no delay at all paste security.dialog_enable_delay into the Filter box. Double click it and change its value to as many seconds as you want the delay to be.

By default you can undo, open, 10 recently closed tabs. To increase or decrease that number paste browser.sessionstore.max_tabs_undo into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to as many as you want.
To enable/disable single click select paste browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll into the Filter box. True selects the whole url while false doesn't.
If you prefer having a single close button at right instead of a sepperate close button in each tab paste browser.tabs.closeButtons into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to 3.
To have more tabs appear on Firefox's window before you have to scroll through them paste browser.tabs.tabMinWidth into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to something like 80 or whatever you like.
In Linux by default if you click somewhere you paste what you have in your clipboard. In Windows this is disabled. To enable it paste middlemouse.paste into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to True.
If you want to use another editor instead of Firefox's default one to view a web page's html source code paste view_source.editor.external into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to True. Next paste view_source.editor.path into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to your editor's path e.g. C:\Program Files\Notepad ++\notepad++.exe.
If you use a non branded Firefox, such as Minefield, and you have problems with sites saying that your browser isn't compatible with them paste general.useragent.extra.firefox into the Filter box. Double click on it and change its value to Firefox/3.0.

Just hover over a bookmark in the sidebar to see the previews. In Firefox 3 you can access the two new views by opening the Library. To get there go to Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks. From there you can toggle the view with the scroll whell or from the View menu.

You can use any search box along with a custom keyword to make searching easier in Firefox 3. To make it clearer let's say you use very often my-guides.net search engine. Right click on it and select Add a keyword for this search....
![]() Enter a name, let's say my-guides.net, and a keyword, let's say mg. ![]()
Now if you type for example mg firefox in the location bar you will be directed to my-guides search engine's results. In the same way you may create as many quick searches as you want for the sites you use everyday!
