I have used the clone feature and it also did not work for that dvd player. I dont want to rely on that though even if it did work because later on down the road if one of my DVD would fail I want to be able to just burn a new one from my backup file. I will look into a firmware update for the machine. thanks for the suggestion. - Joel

I see you have done a lot of work Joel!

Have you tried the Clone function of DVDFab? You could avoid the ripping and reauthoring process this way.

Also have you checked if there is a firmware update for your DVD player? It might solve this bug. - axel

I did try different disks because I had read that certain brand disks for some reason don’t work in certain burners because I was having that problem too. I learned through much pain and research that “Verbatim” disks are what works best in my burners. Since I have now solved that problem, they work great but not in the new DVD player which I use the most. Like I said before, all my other DVD players I have work fine. It is a dual deck DVD/VHS recorder/burner Samsung model. The project that I am working on is I am taking 15 years worth of camcorder family videos from different cameras that I had throughout the years and creating DVDs. This machine does this with great ease and provides a nice menu and all that good junk. I found it easier to use this machine than to take on this project using a computer and computer software program because I am not doing the editing thing, just don’t have time for all that until I am retired someday. I just needed a good clean raw footage burned straight to the DVD. The next step in my project was to Rip each DVD and save the Video-TS folders to a 1tb external hard drive that I picked up cheap for backup. After That I wanted to burn from the hard drive from the files that I ripped to hand out copies to family members. Now here is the stumper, I have all of this down to a science except the fact that the machine which made the DVD to begin with, the original DVD that I ripped and then re-burned cannot play the darn thing. Works fine when I play the original DVD that it made just not the copy. If it makes a difference the tools that I am using are: DVDFab5 Platinum to rip and ImgBurn to burn. The next task is to figure out a safe way to compress all the files without any loss and still be able to quickly burn a DVD without a big ordeal of uncompressing and reauthoring and all the stuff that I don’t understand yet. I want to keep the menus in tack and I think that is where my problem is. Hard drives are so cheap now that I might not even worry about the space anymore unless there is a very easy program that will allow me to compress and burn from the compressed folder with no loss in quality and still have use of all my menus. Have any Suggestions? Sorry for the novel here and thanks again for all your help to everyone. - Joel

DVD-R and DVD+R are supported from different companies. DVD-R is oldest and for this reason if you have an old DVD player it might work better with DVD-R disks. DVD+R has a more robust error management system than DVD-R which means fewer unusable or damaged dvds.

But you mention that your DVD player is new...

Have you tried a different type of disk? - axel

i also forgot to mention that the Dvd player that I am refering to that is not working on the DVDs that I burn is only a year old and is the newest DVD player in the house. all the older ones that i have work great on the DVDs that I burn using your Guide. Thank You again for your efforts. - Joel

I noticed that you refered to DVD-R, will DVD+R work the same, what is the difference? I also was wondering if you could explain if why I followed your guide exactly and it works perfect on 3 of my settop dvd players but on 1 of them I cant get it to work. It gives me an error telling me that the disk is not initialized and cannot play. any ideas? - Joel

Just select DVD5, not DVD9, in DVDFab main window. Take a look at the 3rd image of this guide. You will be ok with that. DVD9 is dual layer DVD e.g. it has bigger capacity but it is more expensive. - axel

when I insert a Recordable DVD to copy my movie to I get a message saying that I have inserted a single layer disc I need to insert a double layer disc. What does this mean and what do I need to look for when I buy recordable discs? - tcoleman
